Cobox Service Tool

On this page you will find general information about the Cobox; how it can be ordered and pre-conditions, an illustrated and animated help for the LED display of the Cobox, as well as help for special situations like changing the engine, connecting multiple apps to a Cobox and concrete troubleshooting steps.

Order

A Cobox can be ordered for 300€ via sales@coboc.biz or via phone.

To successfully deliver a Cobox to you,…

  • we need your Cobox Dealer Number
  • to set up the Cobox correctly, you need an Android device (tablet or smartphone) on which another app can be installed. The device should run at least Andriod 5.0 (“Lollipop”, released November 3, 2014).

Range (battery life)

To extend the range, the Cobox switches itself off automatically after three hours of inactivity.

In our Coboc workshop, the Cobox is in daily use from Monday to Friday and programs several e-bikes. In this scenario, it can be used for about one working week without charging.

If you store your Cobox for a longer period of time, you should recharge it with 5 LEDs beforehand.

Plug. Program.

Service the Coboc way – an arrow on the Cobox indicates how to connect the e-bike. Once the e-bike is connected, the Cobox analyses and reports in less than half a second:

white LEDs: e-bike connected; press the button once to update it.

green LEDs: e-bike with up-to-date firmware detected; nothing to do here.

red LEDs: error – your Cobox-App will help you.

What to do if…

Answers to special situations.

If an e-bike is programmed for the first time

  • Determine the model number of the engine.
  • Connect Cobox, e-bike, and app as usual.
  • Click on “Update” to open a menu.
  • First, select the e-bike model in the menu. You will then receive a list of all possible motors that can be installed in this e-bike.
  • Select the model number of the motor.
  • The Cobox will program the e-bike with the correct software.

If an e-bike cannot be programmed

  • Make sure that the e-bike is not in deep sleep (connect charging cable).
  • Make sure that the Cobox is ready (at least one LED is lit permanently).
  • Make sure the Cobox is firmly plugged in. (The Cobox can hang freely from the motor cable of the e-bike without help).
  • Make sure the Cobox knows what to program. (Connect the app and check if a firmware version is displayed. If this is not the case, proceed as if you were programming an e-bike for the first time.)

If an e-bike gets another engine

  • Connect Cobox, e-bike, and app as usual.
  • Determine the model number of the engine.
  • The app shows all engine models for which the e-bike is currently programmed in the lower right corner.
  • If the model number matches one in the list, click Update to program the current version on the e-bike.
  • If the model number is not in the list, click on the list to open a selection menu.
    • First, select the correct e-bike model from the menu and then the model number of the engine.
    • The Cobox will program the correct software on the e-bike.

If an e-bike is not recognized by the Cobox

There can be several reasons for this.

  • Make sure that the e-bike hardware is up to date (frame number from 20 XXX)
Older hardware versions cannot currently be programmed with the Cobox.
Our Service Team can help you.
  • Make sure that the motor cable is not defective.
To check this, reconnect the motor cable to the motor and turn on the e-bike. Turn the rear wheel once in the freewheeling direction.
If an error is indicated, the motor cable must be replaced.

If an e-bike with an “unknown firmware” is detected

  • In rare cases, errors occur when reading the memory.
Unplug and replug the Cobox once to read the memory again.
  • Proceed as if an e-bike is programmed for the first time.

If the Cobox flashes

You gotta do something. 5 LEDs are not enough for complex news or an invitation to drink beer…

Connect your Cobox to the app to learn more!

If you want to connect another app to the Cobox

  • Make sure that the Cobox is not connected to an e-bike and is switched on.
  • Start the app on the new device. If it has never been connected before, it will display all Coboxes in the area.
  • Press and hold the button on the Cobox until the LEDs turn ice blue.
  • Select the Cobox on the app
  • The app tries to connect to the Cobox. If successful, the app reports success, and the Cobox changes back to the normal blue color.
